Connect Orphi to ChatGPT

This page shows you how to add Orphi to ChatGPT, so that ChatGPT can practise with your own Orphi lessons and cards.

You need an Orphi account, and you must be 18 or older. Orphi uses OAuth. You sign in with your Orphi account, and you can disconnect at any time in Settings, under Connected assistants.

Every assistant connects to the same address:

Connecting ChatGPT takes three steps:

  1. Add Orphi to ChatGPT, from the plugin directory or in developer mode.
  2. Sign in with your Orphi account.
  3. Ask ChatGPT about your Orphi lessons.

Step 1: Add Orphi to ChatGPT

You can add Orphi from ChatGPT's plugin directory once OpenAI lists it there. Until then, you can add it yourself in developer mode. Menu names can differ between versions of ChatGPT. If a label does not match, look for the closest one.

From the plugin directory

This works only after Orphi is listed in ChatGPT's plugin directory.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Plugins.
  2. Search for Orphi and open its listing.
  3. Select Connect, then sign in with your Orphi account.

In developer mode

  1. Open Settings, select Security and login, and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Open Plugins and select the plus button to create an app.
  3. Enter Orphi as the name, and enter the server URL https://mcp.useorphi.com/mcp, including the /mcp path.
  4. Choose OAuth as the authentication, then save.
  5. Sign in with your Orphi account when ChatGPT asks.

In a chat, turn on Orphi from the developer mode tools in the message box.

Step 2: Sign in with your Orphi account

ChatGPT opens Orphi's sign-in page. Sign in the way you sign in to Orphi, then allow ChatGPT to use your account. ChatGPT then appears in Orphi's Settings, under Connected assistants.

A new connection can only read your Orphi data. To let ChatGPT save words, review results, notes and lessons, open Settings in Orphi and turn on Allow changes for ChatGPT.

Step 3: Ask ChatGPT about your lessons

Start a new chat and ask, for example:

  • "Which of my Orphi cards are due today? Quiz me on them."
  • "Let's talk in Chinese about my Orphi lesson on the market."
  • "Save these three words to Orphi."

When Orphi's study screens appear in the chat, you can flip and rate cards on the screen. ChatGPT can ask you to confirm before a tool changes your Orphi data.
